David William Cory, age 79, passed away in his home on 23 December 2017. Dave was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, 25 June 1938 to William Alvin Cory and Barbara Billin Cory.
Dave was gifted in the field of electronics particularly radio engineering. He was only six when he started working with electricity and then in radio electronics upon entering high school. When in high school, he set up a recording/broadcast studio in the basement of their home while also working as a part-time engineer for the local radio station WMOH. His love of recording was augmented by his love of music. Dave had a perfect pitch. He enjoyed playing the bass in a jazz band through college.
Upon earning his masters’ degree in engineering with an emphasis in telecommunications, Dave was hired by Delta Airlines as a telecommunications engineer in 1964. He was fascinated with flying and his focus quickly changed to becoming a pilot. He served as a pilot flying about 12 different aircraft over 33 years before retiring in 1998. Flying was truly the joy of his life. He loved being the Captain of the L-1011 TriStar, flying it between LAX and Honolulu for the final 14 years. Delta Airlines also utilized Dave’s expertise with accident investigation analyses.
Starting in the 1970’s, Dave provided volunteer assistance to the local Fire and Police Departments. This service continued through 2014, with support to the Ivins, Utah Fire Department.
Upon retirement from the airlines, Dave went back to his telecommunications skills. He became the chief engineer for Cherry Creek Radio in St. George, Utah, retiring in 2013.
Dave is survived by his wife, Beverly Robinson Cory of St. George, UT, brother Charles Evan Cory of Colorado, and his step-son Josh Krason (Kirsten) of South Jordan, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dave will be buried in Frankfurt, Ohio, near his father and grandfather.
