Hazel Elizabeth (Beth) Young Barker

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away April 5, 2017 in St. George, Utah from complications of old age.

Beth was born August 27, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the daughter of Lawrence Jefferson Young and Mary Hazel Murray. Beth enjoyed growing up in Salt Lake City.

Beth married Richard R. Barker, Sr. in 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Richard and Beth resided in Magna, Utah, for 21 years where they raised three children, Beth Ann, Richard Jr., and Larry. Beth later lived in West Valley City, Santa Clara, and St. George, Utah, with her husband.

Beth was a member of the Pythian Sisters and was made Grand Chief in 1979. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Beth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many church callings including a two year mission in Santa Clara, Utah.

Richard and Beth welcomed two of her brothers, Bob and Murray, into their home where they cared for them for many years. Bob's children considered Beth as their grandmother.

Beth is preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and 2 grandsons.

She is survived by her children, Beth Ann Catlin, Richard Barker (Lynn), and Larry Barker (Christa); eight grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren,16 great-great grandchildren; her sister Gay Wilson, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Young.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bob and caregivers at Applegate Hospice and the staff at the Retreat at Sunbrook for their loving care.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Santa Clara 16th Ward LDS Chapel located at 3815 W. Rachel Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services from 11:00-11:45am. Interment will follow at the Santa Clara Cemetery.
