St. George, Ut- Anthony James Mayoros, 75, passed away February 9, 2022 in St. George Utah surrounded by his family. He was born the 20th of June, 1946 in San Bernardino, California and was the only child born to Anthony and Clara Mayoros. He married Linda Key September 8th, 1967 and was later sealed together with their children in the St. George Temple April 25th, 1981.
Tony was born and raised in Southern California. He was an only child and went to Catholic school where he had vivid memories of being disciplined by nuns. Almost more so than from his drill instructors at Marine Corps basic training! His love of dogs started early as an only child where his first dog Rex became his best friend. At eighteen, during the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the Marines ….Semper Fi! His unit, the Second Battalion Fourth Marines (the Magnificent Bastards, yes, that is their official name) led one of the first offensive battles in the Vietnam war known as Operation Starlight. He courageously fought and endured many hard things during the war that would affect him for the rest of his life.
After his military service he returned home to Southern California where he met and married the love of his life Linda Key. He started his career in sales and worked for various hardware companies. He was a natural in sales because of his dynamic personality and ability to connect with people. In 1968 Tony and Linda welcomed their first of seven children. In 1974 they moved their family to Hesperia California where they resided for the next thirty three years. They raised their family there and made lifelong friends .
Tony was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was sealed to his family in the Saint George Utah Temple. Tony loved taking family vacations and taking his boys “camping with guns” which some people called hunting. He was a supportive father and rarely missed a sporting event that his children were involved in. He served in many callings in the church including serving in a Bishopric and as High Counselor for many years but his favorite calling was always working with the youth. He had a talent for making everyone feel special and loved. He enjoyed fixing up his vintage truck and spending time with his wife and family. His amazing ability to spin stories and entertain crowds kept family reunions lively and entertaining. In 2005, he and Linda moved to Saint George Utah where he lived the remainder of his life. His optimistic outlook and fun sense of humor will live on through his large posterity.
He is survived by his Wife: Linda Key; Children: Mike (April) Mayoros Hesperia California, Toni (Dave) Carlson Orem Utah, Jim (Allison) Mayoros Diamond Valley Utah, Matt (Tara) Mayoros Draper Utah, Marla (Jake) Harfman Costa Mesa California, Amanda (Brad) Ballard Rockville Maryland, D’Anna Smith St. George Utah. He is also survived and beloved by their thirty nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
