Arnold “Arne” Deshayes, our dear Father and Grandfather passed away on December 1, 2015 in the comfort of his home. He spent the morning walking his dog, talking to his daughter, fussing with his car. He then passed quietly while resting from his labors.
Arne was born in New York City, New York, on January 17, 1928 to Kurt and Signe Deshayes. He joined the service during WWll serving in the Navy as a sailor on the Destroyer Escort 641, William C. Cole. He was very proud of his service and was a great Patriot. He recently participated in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for special recognition.
His career of choice was to be a Draftsman and then later he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Pepperdine, California. He worked for over 50 years.
He met, fell in love, and married Olive Emma Steger in 1950, and they had four children; Laura Deshayes Smith (Neal), Linda Deshayes Buehler (Bob), Kurt Deshayes (Yvonne),and Karl Deshayes. After his wife passed away in 1970, he met and fell in love with Dollie Mae Thomas and in 1972 they were married. He adopted her daughter Trina Deshayes Fields. They celebrated 45 years together until Dollie passed away September of this year. From this family he had five children, 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. All of us will miss Dad very much and miss his wonderful smile and his great stories.
A Graveside Celebration of life will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 11:30 at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Southern Utah Veteran’s Home in Ivins, Utah in memory of Arne Deshayes.
