Betty “Mary Elizabeth” Clasen (Wearne), age 87 passed away peacefully in her home in St. George Ut. surrounded by her family on January 20, 2021.
Betty was born on January 5, 1934 in French Camp, California to Jess Kyle Camper and Mary Foster. She had a 5 year-old sister, Shirley, when she was born.
Betty grew up in Lockeford, Ca in her early years. She attended Lockeford Elementary School and then went on to attend Lodi Union High School and was part of the 1951 graduating class.
Betty married Nathan Clyde Clasen in Carson City, NV on July 8, 1952. They had two daughters together, Terry Michelle in 1955 and Tamara May in 1960. They raised their daughters in Lodi, CA. Betty was mostly a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, baker and seamstress. She loved working in her garden and flower beds. Betty was very talented at making floral arrangements. She had a crafty side. She adored their family dogs and birds over the years. At times she did leave the home to bring in extra income. She worked at Senor Taco in Stockton, CA, The Lodi Nut Factory, Lodi CA and Swenson’s Golf Course, Stockton, CA.
Betty was a huge part in raising her first grandchildren, Ali Cooper and Billy Cooper.
In 1990 her husband of 38 years, Nathan passed away. Later, she started working at Micky Grove Golf Course in the bar and restaurant as the manager. While working their she met a new love, Larry (Lawrence) Wearne, of Lockeford, Ca in 1993. He was an avid golfer and became a regular customer of Betty’s. They spent a few years dating and decided to retire together in St. George UT in 1996. They built a beautiful home in the high desert with the joy of having lots of local wildlife to entertain them. They took many houseboat trips to Lake Powell and Lake Mead and made lots of trips to their family’s home in Idaho. They made lots of friends in St. George and often had gatherings with them. A favorite pastime was to meet up in Mesquite, NV at the casinos. Betty loved slots, especially Keno.
To know Betty was a blessing. She was wise, loving and had a genuine soul. Her love and laughter were contagious. Her resilience through tough times in her life was admirable. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by husband Lawrence Wearne, Daughter Tamara (Bruce) Diede, Grandsons Adam and Brandon Diede, Granddaughter Ali Cooper, Grandson Billy (Jenn) Cooper, Great grandchildren Samantha Franck and Audrey Franck, Rowan Cooper and Isiaih Cooper, bonus daughters Kristina and Maureen Wearne, Nephews Gregory and Randy Maas and Nieces Deniese (Tom) Castle and Deneille Lynn.
A small private service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to The Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Ut.
