Betty Nelson Payne, 84, died peacefully on July 21 st at her daughter, Sandi Stout's home. She was born August 16, 1926 to Thomas Lake Nelson and Blanche Hancock in Eagar, Arizona. Betty married Guy Payne in Farmington, New Mexico on March 12, 1959. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Betty was the oldest of four children. She had lived in the Pine View Ward in St. George for over 10 years.

Betty graduated from Round Valley High School in Springerville, Arizona and graduated from The Gregg Business College in Phoenix, Arizona. Betty completed an honorable mission in the Central Atlantic mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She has been an active member of her church all of her life and has served in many callings including Relief Society President, Young Women President, and Choir Director. Betty loved her family and enjoyed camping in the Colorado Mountains.
Betty is survived by her youngest brother Wallace, her son Lance (Barbara) Payne of Kirtland, New Mexico, Scott Payne of Farmington, New Mexico and Sandi (Steve Stout) of Washington, Utah. Betty has 11 grand children and 21 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at one o'clock on Saturday, July 30 th at the Pine View LDS Stake Center at 595 North 2450 East in St. George, Utah. A Viewing will be from 11:30 am to 12:40 pm at the Pine View Stake Center. Interment will be immediately following the funeral service at the Washington City Cemetery, under the direction of McMillan Mortuary.
