Betty Jane (Shade) Poast, former San Diego resident, died in St. George, UT, June 14, 2018, at the age of 93. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, in 1924.
Betty was preceded in death in 1998 by John E. Poast, her husband of 56 years. As a military spouse for 22 years, Betty lived in Ohio; Texas; northern California; Virginia; Athens, Greece; and Tripoli, Libya, prior to moving back to California and settling in San Diego in 1966. Betty moved to St. George in 2006. Betty and John loved to travel and made it to five continents; she added a sixth as she continued to travel with family and friends until the last few years of her life. She was also involved in dancing, singing, and theatre over the years. In San Diego, Betty was president of the Federated Woman’s Club of San Carlos and was very active in the San Diego Choraleers and Serra Naders. Even in her nineties, she was active in Sunriver clubs, the Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Catholic Thrift shop of St. George.
She is survived by son John E. Poast, II, and wife Glenda Poast in Utah, and daughter Jean E. Crampon and husband William J. Crampon in California; grandchildren John E. Poast, III and wife Margaret in Texas, Michele Poast and wife Angela Hinton in Utah, and Michael W. Crampon and wife Charissa Gascho in Washington; great-grandchildren Annie Jacobs and husband Chris Jacobs in Texas, Kody Goldsmith in Maryland, and Vinnie Goldsmith in Hawaii; great-great-grandchild Megan Jacobs; and sister Margaret Crouch in Florida.
Private services will be held at Fort Rosecrans cemetery in San Diego.
