I passed away in St. George, Utah after a long and satisfying life on October 9, 2024. I was born on a cold Bear Lake day March 3, 1937 in Bloomington, Idaho. My father was Owen D. Thornock and my mother Ada Ward. We moved to St. Anthony, Idaho when I was 4 1/2 years old. I was educated there and graduated from South Fremont high school. I attended USU and received a bachelor degree in Industrial Technology (Automotive). While at USU I was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army transportation Corp. I met and married Carol Ann Marcus Summerill. We were married on September 8, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. I was assigned to the 173rd Infantry Brigade at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Carol joined me there and we were blessed with two Alaskan papooses, Deanne and Reed Douglas. In 1964 I was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). We were deployed to Vietnam in 1965. Janice joined our family in 1967 in California. I was again sent to Vietnam in 1968. I was released from active duty in 1969. Jason Blaine joining the family in 1972. I attended USU and received a MS. I taught Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology for 30 years. After retiring, Carole and I served as officiators in the Ogden Temple and traveled extensively. Carol passed away suddenly in October 2010.
Marilyn Davis Barth and I were married in January 2011. Marilyn and I served a mission to Nauvoo for the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. In 2018 we moved to St. George, UT. We have traveled to many interesting places in the world.
I am survived by wife, Marilyn Davis Barth Thornock. Children Deanne (Brad) Mecham, Reed Douglas Thornock and Cheryl Molzen, Janice Thornock Wagstaff, and Jason Blaine Thornock. Survived by siblings, Jane (Jay) Cook, Douglas (Pamela) Thornock. Preceded in death by wife Carol Ann Marcus Thornock. I was blessed to have two step children Steven (Angie) Barth and Heather Barth (Jeff) Andersen. I have 24 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren with three more on the way.
Graveside services will be on held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Bloomington Cemetery in Bloomington, ID 83223
