Bruce Carter Hiatt (82) of St. George, Utah passed away January 8, 2020 at home. He was born June 17, 1937 in St. George to Edwin and Hannah Hiatt.
Bruce joined the U.S. Navy in 1955. He served on the USS Wedderburn, USS Piedmont, USS Dixie, USS Benewah in Vietnam as a QM1- Leading QM & Pilot, the USS Canon and the USS Chievalier. He ended his Navy career teaching at the University of New Mexico in 1975. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Eisenmen Chemical in SLC, Salt Lake Technical College and Utah State in Logan.
Bruce is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he enjoyed genealogy and was very proud of his pioneer heritage.
He married June Snyder in 1959 in Glendale, CA. They had three children: Rochelle (Kim Lewis) Slight of Cody, Wyoming; Gina Hiatt of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Ben (Julie) Hiatt of Grantsville, Utah. June passed away after 25 years of marriage in 1983.
He married Sharon Mae Newbold in 1983 in West Valley City, Utah. Bruce adopted her three children: Jerry Hiatt of Salt Lake City, Utah; Debbie (Steve) McColley of Kaysville, Utah; Rob (Natalie) Hiatt of Riverton, Utah. Sharon passed away in 2007.
He met and married Jean Bernice Russon in 2007. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 14, 2009. They soon retired to St. George.
He is survived by his wife Jean Hiatt, all of his 6 children, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers Lynn (Alice) Hiatt and Jim Hiatt, and his sister Ladene Cluff. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edwin, Ralph, John and his sister Wynona.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 2020 at 11:00AM at the Morningside 6th Ward LDS Chapel 930 S. Morningside Dr., St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 at the same location. Interment St. George City Cemetery.
