Carlo Marchi

December 4, 1930 — October 18, 2021

St. George, Utah

At the age of 90, Carlo Gino Marchi peacefully passed away in his new home in St. George. His journey began when he was born to Umberto and Edelweys (Lazzari) Marchi on December 4, 1930, in the town of Lucca, Italy. After his teenage years he became happily married to Gabriella Mezzadri in Eritrea, Africa, on September 1, 1951. Shortly thereafter, he worked as a weatherman at a station in Asmara, Eritrea, and later at an airbase in Saudi Arabia. They remained in Africa until 1955, when they and their two children, Osvaldo and Gilda, moved to Italy.

In 1960, Carlo, Gabriella, and their children emigrated from Italy to the US. All four of them gained US citizenship in 1965. They lived in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, all while his dedication and keen eye for detail made him successful as an area manager in the foreign auto parts industry. In 1976 they traveled across the country to move to Oxnard, California. Carlo brought the same expertise, so it wasn’t long before he began to succeed in the auto parts business once more. This time, as a store owner. Shortly after, he became business partners with his son, Osvaldo. Carlo would never waste an opportunity to go on a road trip with his family and friends, all in the comfort of his beloved motorhome. With his children all grown up and a desire to settle, Carlo and Gabriella retired to little ol’ St. George in 1989. The bond between Carlo and Gabriella stayed strong up until her death, 52 years after getting married.

In 2012 Carlo married Stefania Lanzotti, welcoming into his life both her and her son, Sean. Together the three of them traveled across Italy, as well as sailing to Alaska on a week-long cruise. He did not let his age hold him back from traveling far and wide. His morals, teachings, and sense of humor will continue to live within everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife Stefania, sons Osvaldo (Rosemary) Marchi and Sean Pifferi; grandchildren Erik (Jessica) Marchi, Christina Marchi, Alicia (Shane) Anderson, Tonia (Justin) Freeman, and Tara Kirchhoff; great grandchildren Kalysta Riley, Kyah Riley, and Stella Anderson; and sister Luana Ceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Gilda Kirchhoff, sisters Mara Oneta, Isa Bullian, and a third sister, Roberta, who died in childhood.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of the medical professionals, hospice staff, and supportive family and friends for their love and support for Carlo and his family.

Funeral services will be private.
