Carol McPheters Bennion

June 19, 1938 — August 3, 2024

St. George, Utah

On Saturday morning, August 3, 2024, Carol Bennion peacefully passed from this mortal existence at home in St. George, Utah. She was 86.

Carol was the only child of Orville E. and Ann R. McPheters. She was born on June 19, 1938 and raised in Salt Lake City. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a graduate from South High School.

Carol met her future husband, Gerald C. Bennion (Jerry), while working at the Granite Furniture Store in Sugarhouse. They were married on September 19, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple and made their home in Murray, Utah.

Throughout the years Carol and Jerry remained very close to her parents. Her mother never learned to drive, so Carol would regularly pick her up to go shopping or have lunch, and of course there were always the weekly hair appointments on Thursdays. Many holidays, vacations, and events were spent together as a family. Carol was a dedicated and dutiful daughter who honored her parents.

Carol was also a loving and devoted wife and mother. Throughout their marriage Carol always appreciated Jerry’s kindness and patience. Whether taking their children to dance rehearsals, sports practices, or being a Weblos Den Leader, she was an active and supportive participant in her children’s lives.

When her children got a little older, she re-entered the workforce. For many years she worked as the receptionist for Jay Wright D.D.S. Although Carol was very outgoing and friendly while working, she was a very private person. She appreciated her close friends and enjoyed talking with them in small settings, but she abhorred the thought of being in front of a large crowd or public speaking.

Throughout the years there were many family vacations and weekend get-a-ways. Whether going to the cabin at Silver Fork, camping or fishing, visiting family in California and going to the beach or Disneyland, driving to Mount Rushmore or any of the National Parks, Carol was always cheerful and making the best of any situation. Those particular qualities personally helped her endure trials later in life when she fell and broke her hip and years later when she fell again and broke her femur. She didn’t complain about her situation or focus on the limitations, but rather made the best of the circumstances and carried on with cheerfulness in her heart.

Carol is survived by her son Chad, by her daughter Shauna Kleinlein (Steve), 8 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 2014.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 12, 2024, in the Tonaquint Cemetery 1777 S Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah, under the direction of McMillan Mortuary.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Pathway Hospice and Palliative Care, many friends, and members of the Springs Wards for their assistance and kindness during Carol’s transition from this life.
