Carol A. Johnson (nee Miller), 84, passed away on January 24, 2025, after a brief illness in St. George, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents (Ervin Miller and Mayme Herbst), siblings, and husband, Richard Johnson. She is survived by her two children, Scott (Jennifer) of Falcon Heights, MN and Jill Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ, her grandchildren, Austin and Zane Johnson, both of St. Paul, MN, and companion of many years, William Zmuda of St. George Utah, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Carol was born in Osceola, Wisconsin. However, she spent most of her childhood growing up on the East Side of St. Paul, MN. She graduated from Harding High School and maintained many of these relationships throughout her life. She was truly an Eastsider at heart. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation from the University of Minnesota. She met Richard while attending the University and they married in 1963. They lived in Brooklyn Park briefly while building their dream house in New Brighton, MN. They raised their children in their custom home, only moving to Hudson, WI for retirement.
Carol worked for the Mounds View school district in adaptive physical education as a Paraprofessional. Carol was an avid golfer and was in many golf leagues over the years. She enjoyed swimming and traveling and entertaining friends throughout her life. She was a dedicated and loyal participant in her friend’s group, cherishing every moment with her close-knit group of girlfriends. A highlight of her life was traveling to Europe after her graduation with Joy. She was a skilled seamstress and made most of her children’s ice-skating costumes. She enjoyed being a mother and was supportive of all of Scott and Jill’s endeavors. She was equally proud of her two grandchildren, relishing their accomplishments.
In later years, Carol met Bill at the YMCA in Hudson, WI. They supported each other and grew close while grieving the loss of their spouses. They had a shared desire to move to Utah, since both had previously visited and enjoyed the St. George area. For the past 8 years, they made their home in St. George. In recent years, Carol struggled with her health. Lately, she suffered a decline and passed away with family by her side.
