Cecil Holland passed away peacefully on March 10, 2016 at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins, Utah surrounded by family. He was 92. Cecil was born in El Dorado, Kansas on June 29,1923 to Charles and Hallie Holland.
Cecil graduated from El Dorado High in 1940 and started his college education at El Dorado Junior College. Once he completed his military duty he received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State in 1947 and finished his education at the University of Michigan where he received his Masters Degree in Architecture. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1943-46. He was proud to be part of the final push through Belgium, Luxembourg and across the Elbe River into Germany. After being honorably discharged Cecil married Rosemary White on Sept. 3, 1950.
Cecil moved his family from Michigan to Utah in 1958 where he joined with Paul McGill to start the Architectural/Engineering firm, Holland McGill. Cecil eventually partnered with Art Pasker, forming Holland-Pasker Architects & Planners and together they left a legacy of building designs throughout the West. Cecil was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Architects and was active in the Construction Specifications Institute, serving as the Chapter President from 1970-71. Singular among his many accomplishments was the design and construction of the church and rectory at St. Vincent de Paul, the parish he attended during his youth while living in Murray and throughout most of his adult life. Cecil and Rosemary also enjoyed participating in the liturgy with the Carmelites at the Monastery in Holladay. They took pride in having all their children attend parochial schools with each of them graduating from Judge Memorial High. On weekends you could find Cecil with his wife or friends on a local golf course or enjoying themselves at the Cottonwood Club.
Cecil is survived by his children, Michael (Faye Mellos), Joseph (Heidi), Kathy Holland Cameron, John (Marsha), Mary Ann and David (Kristy), his brother Dan and sister Mary Ann Hurt. He was preceded in death, on July 1, 2010, by his loving wife, Rosemary. The family would like to thank Linda Howard for her unfailing support. You will always be our “sister”.
