Cinda Gail Brunken was born May 27, 1954 in Burlington, Iowa to Herbert and Ilien Brunken. She was the first of four siblings: Rodney, Randy and Melissa. She grew up in a loving house with strong Christian roots. Both of her grandmothers lived in the house until they passed in the early '80s and the whole family was happily engaged in the work of the Lord in the Burlington Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
In high school, Cinda attended Oak Park Academy until graduating in 1972. Three years later she graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska with an Associates degree, specializing in secretarial duties, a gift she used repeatedly throughout her life in professional and church callings.
At Union College, Cinda met and married Stanley Eugene Strange Jr. In 1977, they had a son, Corey Benjamin Strange, the love of their lives. Stan and Cinda divorced in 1982.
In 1991, she met Scott Rulan Peterson who introduced her to the restored knowledge of the plan of salvation. Cinda was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in August of 1991 and Corey was baptized a month later. Cinda and Scott were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles LDS temple October 30, 1992. Corey was sealed to them on May 28, 2005 in the Preston England temple.
Cinda enjoyed serving in many church auxiliaries. Her favorite, among the many, was the calling to be a Temple Ordinance Worker in the St. George LDS temple. She also enjoyed her time as Temple Preparation Teacher, Secretary in several Relief Society presidencies, Primary and Young Women's President. Later in life she worked diligently on her family history. Before passing she was able to submit 270 family names for temple work.
Professionally, Cinda worked as an Administrative Assistant to several doctors at Loma Linda University, Training Coordinator at Inland Empire Health Plan, both in Southern California. After moving to the St. George area, she worked for SunCorp Home Building in Coral Canyon and at the Southwest Utah Health Department, helping in emergency preparedness.
People were always Cinda's true passion. She cared deeply for many, no matter their situation.
Memorial services for Cinda will be held at the Coral Canyon LDS chapel this Saturday, February 22 at 2020 N Coral Canyon Blvd. Washington, UT 84780.
The viewing will be from 9-10:30 a.m. followed by family prayer, 10:30-11. The memorial service will be from 11-12. The funeral procession will leave at noon to the Jolley-Gifford Cemetery on South Paradise Road in Springdale where Cinda will be interred.
Cinda has asked that donations to the Perpetual Education Fund be given instead of flowers.
