Darla May Munson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her family home in St. George, UT on Tuesday, 23rd of April 2024. She was 81. Darla was born on May 21, 1942, daughter of Thomas Cowley Hancock and Thelma R Hancock (Cooper), in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Darla spent her childhood in Boise, ID, before moving to central CA with her family. Her family later moved to southern CA, where she met the love of her life in high school, Clifford Munson. Darla loved learning, especially reading, and was always very goal-oriented, striving to do her best in all areas. Cliff and Darla dated throughout high school and were married on June 24, 1961. Darla began her career in accounting at this time to help put Cliff through college. They were blessed with three children, a son and two daughters. One of Darla’s proudest moments was Cliff’s college graduation. She and Cliff worked very hard to provide a wonderful, stable life for their family. She also instilled a love of reading in her children and some of their happiest memories were weekly trips to the library. Darla later attended college and then continued in accounting once the children were in school. She enjoyed many activities with her family, including camping, sports, and spending time with extended family. Annual trips to Idaho and family gatherings in California were highlights in her life. She also helped Cliff facilitate his career through their relocations from California to Oregon to the Chicago area and finally, the Detroit area. She and Cliff later moved to St. George, UT, with their son and family. She loved exploring this area and re-discovering her roots in the lives of her many pioneer ancestors.
One of Darla’s proudest achievements was the college graduation of each of her children and many grandchildren. She made it her legacy to encourage her children and grandchildren to receive as much college education as possible.
Darla is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clifford Munson; their children - Connie Griffin (Dirk), Cliff Munson (Elise), and Lori Adair (Eric); 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all of us, but we are grateful for all the years we had with her and know that she will forever be in our hearts.
