St. George, Utah
David Wayne Jones. Daddy was 74. He passed away on January 2, 2012. He was born August 31, 1937 in Huntington, Utah to Edna Brown and David George Jones. Dads brothers called him "Happ", his family called him Wayne we called him Daddy. He married Lena Beth Thayn in Elko Nevada on March 28, 1957. Mom and Dad were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 4, 1987.
When daddy was about 2 years old, grandma married William Durane Jones who raised him as his own. As a child dads family traveled working in Idaho and Nevada eventually returning to Utah, where his parents purchased a farm in Elmo. Dad spent many hours on the farm where his passion for guns and shooting developed. He attended North Emery High school. When he turned 17, he joined the Army with his brother, Roger. They were promised that they would be able to serve together, however, they were separated after 2 months. During his service, he tried out and made the U.S. Army Advanced Marksmanship Unit. He served on the rifle and pistol team. During his competitions, he received many awards and metals. Being a part of the marksmanship program, one of his responsibilities was to be a representative of the U.S. Army and teaching the general public about competitive shooting.
Dad worked in security at Hill Air Force Base and retired with 38 years of service. He loved golfing and helped to plant trees on the H.A.F.B. Hubbard Golf course where he spent many hours at work and play. When Mom and Dad retired they purchased a motor home and began traveling. They really enjoyed their time together and the friends made along the way.
Dad was a member of the LDS Church where he served in various callings. He became interested in family history and spent many hours researching journals and various Utah historic publications.
Dads love of the great outdoors came naturally, his parents taught him to hunt and fish and we all enjoyed many fishing trips with Grandma and Grandpa Jones and Mom and Dad where we all learned to appreciate Gods gifts. Dad cherished the time spent with his family, he always looked forward to family reunions where he could spend time with his brothers and sisters. And it was important to him that we spent time together. He loved Mom and us kids, as well as his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Dad we will miss you and we thank you for all that you have done for us. We love you and we look forward to seeing you again.
