David Garland Travis,
age 83
died January 14, 2021 in St. George, UT.
David was born to Wallace and Eugenia Travis on December 13, 1937 in Chicago, IL. David had one younger brother, Richard Travis, who preceded his death. David grew up in Chicago Illinois and graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1957 where he studied Aviation Mechanics.
David joined the Army National guard (1960-1966) where he learned that he loved to work on helicopters as much as airplanes. David worked for many different companies with aviation departments. His last was Merle Norman Cosmetics Aviation division where he retired after 25 years as the Director of Aviation Maintenance.
David had many hobbies throughout his life. He loved rebuilding his Cherokee-Six, a single engine six seater airplane. He also enjoyed rebuilding his favorite car, a 1956 Ford Thunderbird. David and Allene loved to travel, especially with the Merle Norman company plane. They have been just about everywhere, whether it was by airplane, or cruise ship. He loved to garden, and he would spend some serious time out in his garden making sure the fruits, veggies, and flowers had everything they needed to grow well.
David and Allene went on a church education mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to South Dakota. David wasn’t too keen on going someplace so cold. He was hoping for warm and tropical weather. Once they got there, they loved it. They loved working with the young people. David loved their mission, and he loved serving the Lord. He had many church callings, but his favorite calling was being a Home Teacher—he loved the families he was assigned to teach.
David is survived by his loving wife Allene Travis, his children Dawn (Steve) Degraaf and Scott (Jeanette) Travis, and by Allene’s children, Kimberly Mason, Elliot (Heidi) Mason, Elaine Mason, Michael (Sandy) Mason and Nancy (Bruce) Higginson.
29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
