Dean B Webb, 84, of St George UT, passed away, July 7, 2011, of natural causes. Born January 22, 1927, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Wilford LeRoy and Birdie May Beckstead Webb. He was the sixth child of eight children. On June 15, 1948, he married his sweetheart Lawana Marie Williams. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple, January 26, 1965. Lawana preceded him in death September 23, 1998.
On his seventeenth birthday, his father signed his enlistment papers to enter the US Navy during World War II. Dean served in the Navy from 1944 to 1948. He saw action in the Pacific front during the War. His ship the Salamaua was hit by a Kamazie and because of his bravery and courage above and beyond he was instrumental in saving the ship. He also was at Tokyo Bay to witness the signing of the Peace Treaty.
After returning home to West Jordan, UT, he became an underground miner and timberman for the U.S. Mines, in Lark UT. He went to night school at Utah Technical College of Carpentry. He later became a General Building Contractor, remodeling and building homes. He built a warehouse complex called Noble Industrial Village and a subdivision called Noble Heights in West Jordan. He had a great love for Real Estate, becoming an agent and Real Estate Broker, President and developer of Noble Land and Investment Company.
Dean was an active member of the American Legion serving as Commander, West Jordan Post 119, and received a 50 year certificate. After moving to St George he continued to serve and received a 60 year certificate of continuous membership in the Legion, 2008, remaining active until his death.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dean served as a Scout Master, High Priest Group Leader, Executive Secretary, 2nd Councilor in the Bishopric, a veil Worker in the Jordan River Temple and recently as a Greeter for the St George Cotton Acres Ward, where he truly enjoyed greeting the young people.
Dean was blessed with six children, his pride and joy; Dean L. Webb (Marla), Harold Webb (Rose), Linda Mitchell (Dale), Kathryn Gray (Michael), Leon Webb (Jeanine), Steven Webb (Marcella), a stepson, Bryant Brown (Gina). He has 21 grandchildren, 37 great -grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers & 5 sisters.
Dean met Barbara B. Unsworth in September, 1999, at a senior citizen’s dance. Their relationship developed and on December 10th, 1999, they were married for time in the Salt Lake Temple. Their life together was filled with friends, extended family and vacations, including several cruises.
Dean is survived by stepchildren; Kathleen Crane (Dennis), Michael Snow (Diane), Sean Snow (LaDawn), Ray Snow preceded in death (Barbara), Robert Snow preceded in death (Carolyn), numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Dean taught all of us how to endure life’s challenges. Being a workaholic, he taught the value of hard work and being a person of your word. Dean loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed one on one conversation, and wrapping his arms around those he loved and appreciated. He was known for the warmth of his great hugs. He will truly be missed – We love you Dad.
A Viewing will be held Sunday Evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cotton Acres Ward Chapel, 2750 E. 350 N. in St. George, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Crescent Ridge Stake Center, located at 11000 S. 1300 E. in Sandy, Utah with a viewing from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Larkins Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
