Delbert Baron

“Been there, done that” was one of our Dad’s favorite sayings.  Delbert Lee Baron was born on March 30, 1936 to Edmund Marion Baron and Anna Marie Hunt Baron, in Idaho Falls Idaho.  He was the 12th child born to a family of 13 children. He valiantly battled Parkinson’s  for over 10 years and finally lost the  battle and passed away on Tuesday, Oct 19, 2021 at the age of 85.

Delbert grew up in Rigby, Idaho working on the family farm alongside his brothers and sisters.  This is where he learned at an early age to work hard and always do his very best.  He always enjoyed riding his favorite horse, Snakes.  Snakes was his preferred mode of transportation to get him back and forth to friends’ houses and town.  Delbert’s passion growing up and his entire life was sports.  He loved playing, watching, cheering, and refereeing all sports. His favorite sports to play were softball and basketball. Because his family was so large they were known to field an entire softball team.

After graduating from Rigby High School he worked various jobs around Blackfoot, Idaho.  He met the love of his life, Nettie Wallace while working one of those jobs.  Sparks flew and they were married June 28, 1957.  Together they are the proud parents of six amazing children: Kristine (Gary) Ritchie, Delroy (Irene) Baron, Susan (Richard) Wolfley, Elouise (Pat) Curcio, Bert Baron and Dawnette (Kevin) Hansen.  Their posterity continues with 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Shortly after marrying Nettie they moved from Blackfoot Idaho to Orange & San Diego California.  They worked together to manage a pool plastering office.  While living in Orange, California Delbert had the opportunity to coach a young men’s church softball team.  They made it all the way to the All Church Tournament held in Salt Lake City, Utah.  It was one of his favorite memories and accomplishments.  After living in California for 12 years they returned to Blackfoot Idaho where they purchased a small grocery store and several apartments.  Delbert also worked as a custodian at Blackfoot High School.  His favorite job was driving bus for the Miles Bus Company.  He enjoyed that job for over 38 years.  He loved seeing the young children and getting them to and from school safely.  Delbert loved transporting the high school sports teams to their games so he could watch and cheer them on.  This experience helped him stay connected to the sports he loved. Delbert also enjoyed golfing with his sons, son-in-law’s and grandsons. As he got older and Parkinson’s took control of his muscles and motor skills, not being able to golf anymore with the family was tough on him.

In Mar 2017 Delbert & Nettie moved to Washington, Utah.  By then Delbert had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and they felt the warmer weather, all one level living and clean air would help with his ailing condition.  He passed away at the Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living Center.  Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and 11 of his siblings.  He is survived by his wife, 6 children and 1 brother.  We love you Dad!!!

Funeral services will be held on Friday Oct 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairway Ward Church Building at 860 N Fairway Drive, Washington, Utah.   There will be a viewing at the same church prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
