Dolores Caroline (Menghini) Walters died Friday, June 30 in St. George, Utah after a brief illness. She was 83. A small family ceremony and burial took place in St. George.
Dolores was a dedicated and beloved friend, wife, mother and grandmother. She faithfully corresponded with her childhood friends all her life. She enjoyed tennis in her youth, and in her sixties could still hit a crafty cross-court volley. She was known for her energy and stamina, especially in looking after her family. Her daughter only recently approximated her famous spaghetti sauce.
She was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Elvira and Norbert Menghini in 1933. She attended Rock Springs High and graduated in 1951. She worked at North Side State Bank until she married Charles Walters in 1955. They lived in Rock Springs, then Roy, Utah and Citrus Heights, California, adding a child to the family in each state. Not long after Charles retired, they embarked on a kind of slow tour of the west. They began and ended in St. George with stops of a few years each in Bullhead City, Arizona; Laughlin, Nevada; Reno, Nevada; Medford, Oregon; and Grants Pass, Oregon. They celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary last summer in St. George.
She is survived by Charles and by sister Frieda Sartain of Sacramento, California; daughter Rosalie Foote and husband Tom of St. George; son Bill Walters and wife Cassandra of Portland, Oregon; son-in law Pat Murphy of Sacramento; nieces Cheryl Stockholm of Fall City, Washington and Janet Ryan of Sacramento; nephew Rick Sartain of Sacramento; three grandchildren, Kimberly Foote of Morgantown, West Virginia; Thomas Foote of St. George; Matt Walters of Portland; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother Bill Menghini of Roseville, California and daughter Caroline (Walters) Murphy of Eagle Point, Oregon.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:00am at the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah.
