Dr. Bruce A. Carr passed away in St. George, UT on Aug. 30, 2017 at the age of 83. Bruce was born on Oct 17, 1933 in Culver City, CA to Victor David Carr and Dorothy Mae Edwards.
He served a mission in Helsinki Finland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) from September 1955-April 1958. Shortly after he began college he was drafted into the US Army and served as X-ray technician. While serving in the Army he met Dorothy Howarth in San Francisco, CA.
Bruce and Dorothy married on June 11, 1960 in the LDS Los Angeles temple. Bruce graduated from Los Angeles College of Optometry in 1964. Bruce and Dorothy moved to Santa Maria in 1971 where he established his practice of Optometry and practiced for 36 years.
He was active in the community and served in various positions in the church which included Bishop, Stk. Pres. Counselor and serving a mission with Dorothy in the Port Harcourt Nigeria Mission from July 2000-December 2001. Following their mission, they relocated to St. George, UT.
Bruce is survived by his wife Dorothy of 57 years, Bruce (Shauna) of Vacaville, CA, Carolyn (John) Beasley of Santa Maria, CA, Brad (Tami) of Las Vegas, NV, Christine of Modesto, CA, and Bryan (Heather) of South Jordan, UT. 13 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Bloomington Stake Center located at 200 W. Brigham Rd, St. George, UT. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 12-12:45pm. Interment will be at the Brigham City Utah Cemetery on Saturday, September 9th at 2pm.
