Edward Garrett

Edward Wesley Garrett.

We lost our friend, husband, father, grandpa and great grandfather on Feb, 12, 2017 in St. George Utah.

Ed was born May 31, 1939 to Glen and Alta E Smith Garrett from Fremont Iowa. He grew up in Fremont Iowa on the family farm. After graduating from high school Ed joined the Air Force. He served for eight years where he became an air traffic controller and weatherman.

He married Sheree Layman in Logan Ut. They had five sons, Edward W Garrett II, Timothy, Shane, Shannon and Lane. Later divorced. Married Starla Pfitzer in Cedar City Ut. They had three children, Megan, Austin and Mishyala. Later divorced.

Ed worked for the U.S. Government for 30 years as an air traffic controller. Retired in 1990. Drove truck from 1995 to 2012. He loved horses, riding and square dancing. He loved hunting, served as a Scout Master, deputy sheriff, EMT and baseball coach and small arms instructor. Ed was a volunteer for many organizations.

He married the love of his life, Kathy Thomas in St. George, Utah. She brought 3 children to the marriage. Kaylnn Brown, Patrick Hogan and Micheal Hogan. They shared fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He loved and supported his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors and sports and loved to attend their games.

Ed was well liked by all who knew him. He made friends wherever he went. He will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Larry and David.
