Elsie Martinez

Elsie Barela Martinez, age 82, was born on December 8, 1935 in Penasco, New Mexico. Our beloved Angel Mother passed away peacefully on December 25, 2017 from this world surrounded by her loving family. On Christmas Day an Angel received her wings.

She was married to Joe Martinez for 61 years they have 5 surviving children and one that passed away at birth. She is survived by her husband Joe, her children Debbie (Karl), Patrick (Kathy), Melvin (Barbara ), Peggy (Karyn), Brenda. She has 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded by parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

In her life she was a devoted Catholic and hands on grandmother. For years she worked in the hotel industry and later in life she became a caretaker for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Our mother was the “glue” that kept our family alive and together. There are not enough words in the dictionary to express how much we will miss her.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 1:30pm at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 W. 200 N. St. George, Utah.  There will be a viewing Friday, December 29th in Kuzy Hall from 6:00-7:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm.  There will also being a viewing Saturday morning prior to services from 12 noon to 1:00pm in Kuzy Hall.
