Erich John Cook Bollers, 73 days past his 35th birthday and after a heroic battle against cancer, went home to our Heavenly Father on 13 August 2015, St George, UT.
Known fondly to his friends as “JC”, he entered mortality on 24 May 1980, Wurzburg, Germany. Recently married on 4 April 2014, he is survived by his wife Eve Crockett Bollers, the great love of his life and best friend; his children: daughters, Supriya and Sahana, and his namesake, Erich Junior; parents: Alan Stuart and Theresa Ann Cook Bollers, Madison, AL; his beloved sister, Elisabeth “Buffy” Bollers Davies, Raleigh, NC and devoted brother, Evan George Cushmore Bollers, Ocala, FL; also, his grandparents, Donald and Jane Cook, Marshall, MI and Jack and Sally Harink, Baldwin, MI.
Erich achieved the highest honor in Scouting; throughout his life without waiver, he steadfastly epitomized the ideals of the Eagle Scout. He was a 1998 graduate of Sparkman High School, Harvest, AL and Brigham Young University in 2008. Erich attended the University of North Alabama a year before serving honorably in the São Paulo South Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1999-2001.
Erich was recognized as a Son of the American Revolution; he was so proud of his ancestor who gave his life on Lexington Commons in the cause of Liberty. His heart was filled with pure inspiration; he believed those ideals and the Gospel of Jesus Christ would make a better world. He acted with full measure throwing all into that vision. As a founding member of LDS Liberty, he tied the Gospel of Jesus Christ, political principles taught in the Book of Mormon, and the teaching of modern day Prophets into a worldview that brought him enduring friendships.
If a man is known by the company he keeps, then certainly the words of a life-long friend can speak for us; Joey Glotzbach said of him: “Erich was one of the brightest, most intelligent, most personable, funniest and sweetest guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and had the honor of being able to call him best friend for life. He was my mentor and one of my role models. His enthusiasm for life and passion for teaching the gospel inspired me to go on a mission; we put our papers in on the same day and passed through the MTC together.”
As his father, let me say: my children and their mother are my center, my depth, my all, and only reason for being. Erich was the first blessing that completed my love for my eternal companion and made firm our covenants to Heavenly Father. He was the first blessing that made us a family and gave us the confidence to enlarge our posterity with equally delightful blessings: Elisabeth and Evan. Our great joy is to see the love these three children have for each other. They are our greatest accomplishment made only possible through the support of the only true church of Jesus Christ on the Earth.
No doubt his early call to the other side is to do a great work for the Lord. Surely, he will come forth in the first Resurrection a proven servant-leader of Jesus the Christ.
Erich, my beautiful boy, my handsome son, rest in the arms of the Lord. Mother and I will see you soon; then there will be only tears of joy for we are a family forever.
