Ernie Knapp, almost 88 years old, died in St. George, Utah on April 19, 2016, after a brief illness.
He was raised in Caldwell, Idaho, the son of Frank and Ida Knapp, with siblings Don, Jim and Mynnelu Mighetto (all deceased).
Ernie was active in most sports while attending Caldwell High School and followed collegiatefootball with enthusiasm the rest of his life. He served from 1946-1949 in the Navy and after discharge, courted and married Mary Ellen Butler in 1950 at Caldwell.
The couple then moved to Los Angeles where Ernie attended and graduated "cum laude" from the University of Southern California in 1955 with advanced work at the University of California, Berkeley.
He began an Industrial Relations career as a college trainee with Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical and continued to advance in various capacities within the current Human Resources field with several industrial organizations. Mary Ellen and Ernie enjoyed his working assignments in many Western U.S. locations and eventually settled into retirement in St. George.
