Our Mother, Florence Marguerite Saxton Collings, passed away at Dixie Regional Medical Center on early in the morning on May 16, 2018. She was born in Inglewood, California, on August 18, 1931 to her sweet parents, Henry George Schmidt and Francis Marguerite Thompson. Our loving mother married our sweet father, Don Leon Saxton, on July 29, 1951 in Lynwood, California. They were happily married for 34 years.
Our mother was raised in Lynwood, California with an older brother George, and her younger sister Jackie, where they lived a very blessed life as a family.
Our father and mother raised their family in Pico Rivera, California, with their four children, Karen, Don, Elizabeth. and Cheryl.
After the untimely death of our loving father, after a few years of loneliness, our mother remarried. His name was Wendell Collings. They were happily married for a few years until he passed away leaving her widowed again.
Our mother was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, and played the organ in church meetings for about 50 years. She also accompanied on the piano for many church ward choirs, and for soloists and others to perform. She taught piano for years to many children and adults, and in so doing so, brought music into their lives. She loved the piano with her soul. She taught piano to all of her children, and some of her grandchildren. It was a huge part of her sweet life.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Dan) Echols, Utah, Don Saxton, California, Elizabeth (Bob) Fletcher, Arizona, and Cheryl (Dennis) Rooney, New York.
Her surviving grandchildren are, Jared Echols, Amber Donnelly, Elisha Hinton, Jessica Noble, Ashley Cope, Jennifer Neilson, Robert Hornbeck, Alexandra Booth, Joel Echols, Joshua Hornbeck, Heather Clark, Hilary Clark, Tiffany Young, Julia Saxton, David Clark, Donny Saxton, Sarah Saxton. She was blessed with 31 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 19, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, at 11:00 am in the chapel at the Pineview Ward Building, 595 North 2450 East, St. George, Utah. Viewing from 9:30-10:45 AM prior to services.
