Frank Edward Martin, husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, died peacefully on Thursday January 14, 2016, following a long illness. He was 72. Frank was born in Ogden, Utah on April 12, 1943. He was son of Francis Edgar Martin and Faye (Fijke) Post, both deceased. Frank was one of 5 siblings, and had many foster siblings. He will be missed.
Frank grew up in Ogden. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School (1961). Frank served a mission in the Southwest Indian Mission to Native Americans for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1963-1965. Frank held a B.S. degree in Police Science from Weber State College (1981).
Frank was married to his sweetheart, Kathleen (Kathy) Bott from Brigham City, Utah, in the Logan Utah Temple on August 4, 1966. This August would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Together, they are the proud parents of five children, and the grandparents of 13 spectacular grandchildren.
Frank worked for the State of Utah in the Department of Corrections for 40 years. He worked at the Utah State Industrial School, the Ogden Utah Halfway House and in the St. George Adult Probation and Parole Office. In June of 2006, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award and the Medal of Merit.
Frank is survived by his wife, Kathy and their children; Christi and Chris Ruppel, Jana and Chet Parker, David and Jennah (Crowther) Martin, Mindy Martin, and Stephen and Jennifer (Eardley) Martin; along with their 13 grandchildren. Frank’s surviving siblings are; Faye Hayes, Paul and JoAnn Brenkman, Marie and Kevin Smith and 45 nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; Francis and Faye, by his sister, Eelje Newell, and two nephews.
We wish to express special thanks to the Liberty Dialysis Center, The Journey of Hope Hospice, as well as to Dr.’s Mercado, Te, Almeda, Leon, Nimer and Jones,; along with their wonderful staff members, who have taken such good care of Frank and Kathy.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 22, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Sunset Stake Center, 100 N. Dixie Dr., St. George, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 21st from 6 to 8 pm and Friday 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
