After a long battle with Parkinson's Disease, Fred Richard Hansen, age 66, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, July 12, 2010 in Santa Clara, Utah, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Oakland, California on September 24, 1943, to Audrey Mae Cole and Fredrick Thorkill Hansen. He was raised in San Lorenzo, California. He was married in the Oakland LDS Temple to Janine Winter on July 25, 1968. He attended Brigham Young University and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Physiology and Biochemistry. Fred began a teaching career at his alma mater, Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California where he taught for 14 years. He relocated to Washington, and taught at Henkle Middle School in White Salmon for another 20 years. He was a wonderful teacher who touched the lives of many young people. He was recognized and nominated for many awards for his excellence in teaching, by both students and faculty.

Fred was a master craftsman. He put his heart and soul into planning and building his family home in Trout Lake, Washington. His beautiful woodworking and handyman skills were evident throughout their home. Fred had numerous hobbies including skin diving, biking, backpacking, camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, mushrooming, and photography.

He was extremely outgoing and loved organizing kayaking and camping trips or anything that included fun and family. He was an active member of the LDS Church, where lovingly held callings in the High Priest Group, the nursery and the activities committees. Fred loved people and was loved by all who were blessed to know him.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Janine, children Cory (Sonja) Hansen, Kristi (Greg) Taylor, Lumina Julie Gershfield, Ace Gershfield, and Michael Hansen. He is survived by grandchildren Gabriella, Rylee, Madeline, Grace, Ben, Mia and Lilianna. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Childs.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Chapel located at 630 Riesling Avenue, in Santa Clara, Utah on Saturday July 17, at 10:00 am, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will be following the service at the Tonaquint Cemetery , 175 East 200 North, St. George, Utah. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880
