Gene Howard Winn, 83, February 4, 2015 in St. George Utah, at home, surrounded by his family. Gene was born to Mildred and Milton Winn on September 23, 1931 in Lithia Springs, Georgia. He married Bettye Ann Johnston on October 10th, 1951 who succumbed to Cancer in 1974. He remarried on March 23, 1985, to Mary "Bany" Williams in Southern California.
Gene was raised in Lithia Springs, and after working for Western Union for two years joined the United States Air Force where he honed his passion for Engineering and went on to work for RCA, Bendix, Philco Ford, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Gene had travelled the world with his profession, monitoring the Deep Space tracking dishes in Goldstone California, Madrid, Spain, and Canberra, Australia.
Through his professional life, Gene travelled and or lived in the countries of Japan, Libya, and Russia, most of Europe, Ascension Island, and Australia. He and Bany continued to travel when they retired to St. George in 1996 from Southern California, eventually finding their summer home in Columbia Falls, Montana.
Gene was a lifelong learner, he earned his first degree in Mathematics from Rollins College in Melbourne, Florida in 1970 with straight "A's" while working full time and raising a family. He continued his education for years, eventually completing a dual Master's degree in Business Administration and Mathematics from the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University. He was raised a devout Southern Baptist, but attended the Shepard of the Hills Presbyterian Church in St. George, Utah and the First Baptist Church in Columbia Falls, Montana. He enjoyed golfing, working in his yard, and spending time with friends.
Gene is survived by his wife Bany, his sister Joann Cramer, his children John Winn, Robin Williams, Mike Winn, Angie Esser, and Tacy Faughnder, their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Gene requested not to have a memorial service, but the family will come together for a celebration of his life at a later date in Southern California.
