Gerald Leo Despain, 68, died December 8, 2011, in St George, Utah. He was born May 22, 1943, in Paso Robles, California to Leo and Claudine Despain. He was raised in Salt Lake City and served LDS mission in Brazil. He married Juanita Golding in the SLC Temple June 14, 1967.
He earned a BS and MS from University of Utah in Mathematics. Heworked as computer programmer 43 years. He lived in Phoenix, AZ, for 38 years and St. George, UT, for the last 6 years.
He enjoyed reading, hiking, biking, teasing, public speaking, and spending time with family.
He also enjoyed serving in various callings in the LDS church;teaching, bishoprics' counselor, stake high councilor,stake and ward clerks, and as a St. George Temple ordinance worker.
He is survived by his mother Claudine, wife, Juanita, daughter Ann Humpherys (Erik), sons Daniel (Michelle), and Laran (Robin), 6 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Preceded in death by daughter Sandra.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 12, 2011, at 11am at LDS Sunset 1 st Ward, 82 North, Dixie Drive, St George, UT. A Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:45 am. Interment will be at the Murray City Cemetery, under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.
