Glen Wiley

Glen Richard (Bob) Wiley was born on June 21, 1921 in Riverton, Wyoming to Arza Emerson Wiley and Marie Electa Driskell. By age two his mom had passed and Bob was raised on a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming by his mother's parents, Charles A. and Marie E. Driskell.

It was on the ranch where Bob began his life of work with the usual chores. After high school Bob was a pharmacist's assistant, fishing guide, wrangler and packer for a hunting camp and a willing laborer.

In early September 1941 Bob talked his high school sweetheart, Wanona Henrie, into going with him to pharmacy school. On Sept. 19 ^th on their way to Idaho State, they stopped in Driggs, Idaho to get married. They were married for 72 years.

In 1943 Bob volunteered for service and joined the US Army. He was sent to France and was away for 2 ½ years. Bob participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle for Northern France.

In 1946 the couple returned to Jackson Hole where they formed a partnership with his Uncle, Dean Driskell, in a construction company where they built and owned the first motel in Jackson. Bob was a contractor for 40 years and built many homes, commercial and public buildings in Jackson Hole. He was elected to the town council for three terms, 1953-1965 and also served several years on the Teton Country Planning Commission.

Bob combined recreation and community service. He learned to fly and got is private license through the G.I. Bill and eventually upgraded to a commercial instrument rating. He was the commander of the local Civil Air Patrol squadron for many years and hosted the state CAP convention many times.

Bob and Wanona became snowbirds in their years of retirement, and in 2004 they bought a permanent home in Washington City, Utah. At age 85 he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and Wanona enjoyed seven years of activity in the church together.

Above all, Bob was a family man. He was devoted to his wife and three children. When asked, "What do you want for your birthday?" He would reply, "to be with the kids."

Bob passed away on June 29, 2014 one week after is 93 ^rd birthday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanona, and is survived by; his sister Mary Lee (Merle) Porter of OH, his children, Mitch Wiley (Mary) of Taylorsville, UT, Deana Hardy (Kim) of Mesquite, NV, and Russell Wiley (DeAnn) of Hurricane, UT, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Buena Vista LDS stake center, 860 N. Fairway Dr., Washington, UT. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 AM prior to the services. Internment with military honors will be at the Washington City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary 435-688-8880.
