Gloria P. McGilloway, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, in St. George, Utah, at the age of 76. Born on October 11, 1947, in Utica, New York to Wilbur and Lila Peryer. She devoted her life to teaching, guiding countless students through their educational journeys.
On November 15, 1997, Gloria married Chuck F. McGilloway Jr. in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
A proud graduate of Canastota High School, Gloria was not only a cheerleader but also a distinguished member of the National Honor Society. Her passion for education led her to pursue higher learning at the State University of New York at Oswego, where she earned both her Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees. She furthered her academic achievements with a Ph.D. in Education from Lehigh University, dedicating her life to fostering knowledge and inspiration in others.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Gloria found joy in various hobbies, including crocheting, reading, and playing golf. Her deep interest in theology was exemplified through her active involvement in Stephen's Ministry, where she served as a member and facilitator, helping and supporting those in need.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, Chuck McGilloway, and her step-children: Eric McGilloway (Rebecca), Kelly Rochford (Dan), and Heather McGilloway. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Morgan, Josh, Kyle, Ryan, Cole, Kendra, Jack, and Beau, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Lila Peryer.
A memorial service to honor Gloria’s life and legacy will be held on September 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, located at 611 N 2450 E in St. George, Utah.
Gloria P. McGilloway will be remembered not only for her contributions as a dedicated teacher but also for the love and kindness she extended to her family and community. Her spirit will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege to know her.
