Gordon Childs

Gordon attended Snow College and the University of Utah. He went on an LDS mission to Sweden. After, he served two years in the US Army in Germany as a Lt. Col. In the 40 ^th Signal Corp. where he ran a post office during the Korean War. While in Germany he married Irmgard Schillinger. That marriage ended in divorce with Gordon being granted custody of their five children: Marty, Connie, Charmaine, Barry and Monette. In 1973, he met and married Peggy Lee Hobbs Montague. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He adopted her two children, Stephanie and Greg. He worked at Zellerbach Paper Company in Salt Lake City as a Sales Representative for 20 years. Gordon and Peggy moved to Bloomington, Utah where he worked as a Realtor with ERA Brokers Consolidated. After retirement he served as a volunteer art instructor for the St. George Senior Center for over 16 years. His paintings now hang in many homes and offices. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and their 7 children: Marty (Regina) Childs, Connie Childs, Charmaine (Steve) Milner, Barry (Donna) Childs, Monette, (Shawn) Lunt, Stephanie (Brent) Schmutz, and Greg Childs; 19 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild. Henry Van Winkle, a former foster child, has always been part of Gordon and Peggy's family.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington 7 ^th Ward Mulberry Chapel, 3381 Mulberry Drive, St. George, Utah. Visitation will be held Monday, March 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Internment at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
