Gordon Olds

d. July 20, 2011

Gordon Ellis Olds, 68, passed away unexpectedly in Orem, UT on July 20, 2011. Ellis was born July 11, 1943 in Cedar City, Utah to Verlean Haslam and Dewey Glenn Olds. Ellis married Linda Bryant on April 15, 1967, and they spent 44 wonderful years together.

Ellis moved to St. George early in his life, moving away only to gain an education at Brigham Young University, and to serve his country in the Army. Ellis served in the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge in 1970. After studying at BYU, Ellis transferred to Dixie State College in order to better provide for his family.

Ellis was an exemplary father and grandfather. He was a patient and honest man, and always considered family to be the first priority. He enjoyed gardening, maintaining the family's home, and traveling to Battle Mountain or Salt Lake City to visit. Ellis loved to cook, fish, and go on adventures with his son, son-in-law and grandsons. He was so proud of his granddaughter Olivia, who had just won Miss Utah Junior Teen. Ellis has been reunited with his wife Linda, but will be missed greatly by many friends, family, and loved ones.

Ellis is survived by four children, all from St. George: Deana Wright (Lance), Crystal Emley (Marc), Rowdy Olds (Jana), and Wendy Baird (Tom), his grandchildren Miranda and James Wright, Tyker, Olivia, Alexis, Jayger, and Brody Olds, Tommy Baird, and Kristen Kramer, and his siblings Dewey Olds, Anthony Olds, Alice Olds, Carmen Garcia, Joseph Garcia, and Fed Garcia.

Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, and his siblings Beatrice Olds, Connel Olds, and Elois Olds.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:00am at the Snow Canyon 6 th Ward Chapel, 1610 N Dixie Downs Road, St. George, UT. Visitation will be from 9:30am until 10:30am on Wednesday at the same location. Interment will be at the Hurricane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the care of Olivia, who was lovingly cared for by Ellis.
