Grant Howard Wyler

Grant Wyler died peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on May 2, 2023.  He is survived by his loving wife, Janine Wyler, and his three children, Rachael Abbott (Kevin), Daniel Wyler (Diana), and Kaity Zollinger (Andrew), as well as his eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, (LeNora Wyler), Dale Wyler, Karen Wyler (Mark) Lacy, Carolyn Wyler (Ken) Welton, and Richard (Janet) Wyler. He is predeceased by his parents Wayne and Wanda Wyler, and recently by his oldest brother Kenneth Wyler.

Grant was born in Provo, Utah on January 30th, 1954, the third child of Wayne and Wanda Wyler’s six children. He spent the first eleven years of his life in Provo before the family moved to Illinois. Grant’s great loves growing up were sports, music, and woodworking. One of the things he was most proud of was the pool table he built at age fifteen. Grant spent his last year of high school in Colorado before moving with the family to Sacramento, California.

Grant has always had a deep love for his Savior Jesus Christ, and served as a missionary in Bogota, Columbia, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1974 to 1976.  Sacramento is where he would ultimately get his bachelor degree, as well as his juris doctorate. But most importantly, it is where in 1982 he would meet and marry the love of his life, Janine Wilson (Wyler).

Grant worked throughout his life as a CFO, dealing mostly in retail. Grant, Janine, and their children lived in the greater Sacramento area through their children’s early adult years. Then in 2008, Grant and Janine moved to the small town of Paradise, California.  They made a life there as recent empty nesters, and quickly fell in love with the beauty of Paradise and its people. They were absolutely heartbroken when a fire took their town and their home in late 2018, forcing their exit as well as the exit of many of their dear friends who had become like family through the years.

Grant and Janine relocated to St. George, Utah in 2021, having spent the interim years in temporary housing in the Chico, California area. Unfortunately, it was shortly after coming to St. George that Grant was diagnosed with cancer, a battle he fought optimistically and courageously, but that ultimately he would lose. Through life’s ups and downs, Grant never lost his faith or hope in his Savior, and in his knowledge that families can and will be together forever. He instilled that faith and hope in each of his children, and we will honor him by holding on to that as we move through our mortal journey without him by our side.
