Grettle Carter

Grettle Owen Carter died peacefully in her home on May 12, 2015 in Saint George,Utah at the age of 81.

Grettle is survived by her siblings Evan “Owen” Hansen (Darlene), Karen Marie O’Brien (Verl); as well as her children Drew Ferwerda (Joni), Evan Ferwerda, Todd Ferwerda, Tyce Ferwerda (Debra), Lani Cleverly, and Leslie Ferwerda; step-children Pamela Asadi, Kris Sawin, and Jibril “Evan” Carter (Kim); 34 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her dear husband Paul Carter, her parents, and her siblings Marion, Richard, Lewis Tulane, Leo, and Conrad Hansen.

Grettle was born December 25, 1933 in Logan, Utah to Leo Albert Hansen and Grettle Benson Owen.  She graduated from Granite High School in 1952 and later attended BYU.  She married Don Ferwerda on June 21, 1956, later divorced.  She married her beloved husband Paul Carter on September 4, 1979.  Grettle lived and raised her children in the Seattle area while working for Boeing. She served an LDS mission with Paul in Saint George, Utah.  She was an accomplished cook, seamstress and interior decorator.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00am at the Indian Hills LDS Chapel 1282 W. 500 S., St. George, Utah.  A viewing will be from 9:30am to 10:45am prior to services.  Interment in the Tonaquint Cemetery following services.
