Hartly C Hansen passed away Tuesday morning October 13, at home with his family surrounding him. He was born July 11, 1933 in Richfield, Utah to Clair M Hansen and Eva Hendrickson Hansen and grew up in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and was assigned to the USS Waccamaw as Quartermaster. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Geology. He started work with the Utah State Road Commission. His supervisor encouraged him to take a few more classes to become a Civil Engineer, which he did.
Hartly married Mary Alice Throckmorton Feb. 4, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple and had three Girls: Lori, Sheri, and Joni. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration Department with Airports in three states. He didn’t want his family to move away from Utah, so he went to work for the Hill Air Force Base. After his family was raised, Hartly and Mary Alice moved to St. George and he worked for the BLM, Arizona Strip District. He enjoyed his work and was a valued employee. In 1996 he retired and enjoyed traveling to find the next good fishing spot. He loved the outdoor life and always took his family with him. Hartly is survived by his Wife, Daughters: Lori Jacobsen in Bountiful; Sheri Wagner (Woody) in Santa Clara; and Joni Otto (Jeff) in Riverton. Nine grandchildren: John, Amy, and Jacob Jacobsen; Melissa, Michael (Brittny), and Adam Wagner; and Justin, Jaclyn, and Jana Otto. He has two brothers; Jerry Hansen (Judy), and Rick Hansen (Anne).
A Viewing will be held Friday, October 16, 2015, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Morningside Stake Center, 879 S. River Rd. St. George, Utah. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12 Noon at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 E. 7800 S. Cottonwood Heights in Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Applegate Hospice, especially Laura, the social worker, Susan, his nurse and Carlos, the CNA, who sat with him each night.
