Thayle returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday January 18, 2015, at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her daughter Suzan Leslie deWitt, her beloved husband Sidney (Sid) Robert Smith, brother Charles Everett Cripps, and sisters Gwendolyn May Johnston and (Lavina) Arzelle Ranck.
Thayle is survived by her sister Carolyn Cripps Williams, and her children Raymond Cripps deWitt (Sheila), Dawn Lynn Dumond (Jim), Danne Paul deWitt, Mitchael Lane deWitt (Reyna), and Devary Thayle Howe. In additions to her 6 children she has 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 23 great great grandchildren.
Thayle was born on August 14, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Ut to Percy Charles Cripps and Ida May Peck Cripps. She was married to Ramond Chessar deWitt from June 3, 1936 to August 1966. She then married Sidney R Smith in Tillamook, OR on May 10, 1973 and was with him until his death in 2002.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 11:00am at the LDS Sunset 6 Chapel, 750 N. 1000 W, St George, Ut. Graveside Dedication will be at the City of St. George Cemetery directly after services. Thayle's Services will be held concurrently with her Daughter's Suzan Leslie deWitt.
Thayle was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Later Day Saints. She served in many positions in the church including, two Stake Missions, Primary President, Second Counselor to the Relief Society twice, Instructor for Beehives and MiaMaids, and a teacher in Family Relations and Social Relation just to name a few. But her favorite was teaching and researching Genealogy for her family . However, the most important to her and her husband Sid was being Temple worker in the St George Temple. She was a past president and member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP).
She was a co-owner of Foremost Builders in El Monte Ca. Prior to that she worked for Mayfair Builders, Save-on Homes, and Sash & Door Co all in California. Her occupation was a Bookkeeper/accounting most of her life. She also worked for the Tillamook, Oregon Library.
Thayle was an Artist both in water colors and oils. She won many ribbons on her paintings in Tillamook, Oregon where she was a life time member of Oregon State Watercolor Society. In addition she decorated cakes and cookies. When she had spare time she wrote poetry and read books. She loved to read her church books in her later years.
