Jerry Wendell Law, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2022 with family by his side in St. George. He was born March 14, 1933 in a little house on 400 S. Main in St. George to John “Jack” Wesley and Alverda Hall Law. He married Janice Reynolds in the St. George LDS Temple on June 2, 1953.
Jerry served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955 and was in the Army Reserves for 8 years. He was an auto and machine mechanic for many years in Murray, Utah until he decided to change careers and do what he loved. He moved his family to St. George in 1972 to work as a finish carpenter. He was very detail-oriented with his work and eventually began building staircases. His talent for building beautiful staircases was sought after and he built many in the area.
Family was Jerry’s first joy. He also found joy working with wood as a hobby. He turned many beautiful pieces including bowls, vases, and pen and pencil sets that he gifted to many family members and friends. His favorite project was being commissioned to duplicate the original gates and posts for the Brigham Young Winter Home in St. George. He made 8 posts and 3 gates, each gate had 33 dowels and 39 finials that were meticulously hand turned.
Jerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He loved being a leader in the Boys Scouts. He completed Wood Badge Training and earned the Silver Beaver Award. He was Webelos Leader for 5 years and awarded 30 Arrows of Light. His favorite calling was Advisor in the Special Needs Mutual where he helped two boys achieve their Eagle Scout.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, a daughter, Aileen Law (20); his parents; grandsons, Stephen and Justin (infant twins) and Anton Allen Kuhlmann (41); and three infant great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Susanne (Peter F.) Kuhlmann, Bicknell, Utah, Jeffrey Law, Taylorsville, Utah, and Teresa (Daniel) Brooks, Mesa, Arizona; sisters Denise Bastian, Gilbert, Arizona, DeVaun Poole, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Marsha Law, Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Burial Service will be held October 8, 2022 at 10:00 am with military honors by The American Legion at the St. George City Cemetery for close friends and family, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel, 881 South River Road.
