John Robins

d. July 20, 2014

Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather & friend, John (Jack) Lester Robins passed away peacefully on July 20, 2014 at Ridgeview Gardens in St. George, Utah surrounded by his family.

Jack was born May 19, 1915 in Hillspring, Alberta , Canada to George Vigar Scott Robins & Florence May Thornhill Robins. He was the 2nd oldest of six children. At the age of 13 his family moved to Long Beach, California. Jack attended and graduated from Wilson High School He married Bea Scott on June 2, 1941 in Los Angeles, California. They were not able to travel to the temple because of the war. They were sealed in the Arizona LDS Temple on May 12, 1942.

He was a bookkeeper for the City of Long Beach Water Dept. for 36 years. He served in the Army for 10 months during World War II. Jack was very good with numbers and because of that he did not go to battle, but was left in the states to assist with discharging of the men…figuring what their pay should be as they were discharged.

Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved serving wherever he was needed; he and our mother were a great team serving the Lord. He served as a ward clerk for many many years in Long Beach, also as a Counselor in a bishopric and he and Bea were temple workers in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They moved to Santa Clara, Utah in 1980 then they served a mission on the Crow Indian Reservation in Billings, Montana. He loved Family History, he and Bea wrote 2 family history books which were full of pictures and maps. It was his job to draw the maps for the books. Jack also loved gardening, and home repairs. They enjoyed traveling and went to Europe several times. He enjoyed singing in the choir at church and visiting the grandkids, some who loved all over the world.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgeview Gardens for the love and care they have given both Jack and Bea over the past 4 plus years. Also, Rocky Mountain Hospice and especially Suzanne for all the love and care she gave him over the years.

Jack is survived by his children: Patricia Bea (Vernon) Clark, Santa Clara; Cathleen May (Howard) Shaffer, St. George; G. Michael (Ruth) Robins, Ivins; 21 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; one sister Fern (Charlie) Attaway of Seal Beach, California; and numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins. He was preceded on death by his loving wife Bea, his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a son-in-law, and 1 great-grandson.

"God looked around his garden, and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this Earth, and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home."

Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00am at the Rachel LDS Chapel located at 3815 W. Rachel Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. A viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:30am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Santa Clara Cemetery.
