John (Old Hippie) Dell

February 12, 1946 — April 9, 2018

John Douglas Dell (Old Hippie) was born February 12, 1946 in Murray, Utah, to John Anthony and Helen West (Barney) Dell. He graduated from Murray High School in 1964.  He passed away on April 9, 2018.

He served in the National Guard 115th Engineer Battalion, he then later transferred to the 1457th E.B. in Lehi, serving for two years.

He married Rheanna Lyn Parkin, they later divorced. They had two children, Darren and James. He married Linda Snyder, they later divorced. They had four children, Brandon (Paige), Dustin (Brittany), Darby (Eric) Green and Brett (Tonya). He also was a step father to Robin Kirkwood and Tracy (Shawn) Doyle. He married Kathy Boyer, they later divorced.

He drove truck for his father in his earlier years. He was an iron worker and was part of the 27 crew. He helped in building bridges, overpasses and many high-rises for twenty-five years.

Upon retiring he moved from Utah county to St. George, to be closer to his children. He then drove truck for a few more years before officially retiring.

He enjoyed hobbies such as painting abstract art, making wood creations and sand sculptures. He gave them to local companies, children in hospitals, VA’s, family and friends. His most enjoyment came with being able to spend time with his family, whom he loved very much.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many special friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Carol Jean Charvoz, Lorraine Maddocks Courtright and a granddaughter Amber Starzecki. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 4-7:00 pm at the 5th East Hall (455 E. 200 So. Suite #1600-1700) American Fork, Utah. Burial will take place at the Murray City Cemetery.
