Joseph D. Stubbs, Jr.,  of St. George, Utah, passed away July, 2015.  Joe was born  December 10, 1944 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Joseph D. Stubbs, Sr. of St.George Utah, and the late Wanda Marie Warner of Seattle, Washington. Additionally, Joe was preceded in death by his loving (step) Mother Donna L. Stubbs of St. George and brother Stanley “Dale” Piper of Washington, Utah.

Joe was a graduate of Dixie High School, St. George, Utah, class of “63. He served with the U.S. Army following graduation and retired from active duty after 22 years, reaching the enlisted rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) before being promoted to Warrant Officer, attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-3. Joe Served both in Army logistics and as a Special Agent with the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps; Defense Investigative Service and Defense Intelligence Agency.  He was a Viet Nam veteran having served 2 tours.

Joe dedicated his life to his children. He really enjoyed the monthly high school class gatherings. Joe enjoyed umpiring baseball and referring basketball, which he had done for 30 years. He really enjoyed participating as a ride-along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office patrol with his son Rich who is a Deputy Sheriff and Staff Sergeant in the US Army Reserve. Joe also enjoyed unplanned trips with his beautiful and loving wife Betty. Playing Mah Jong with family, bowling, family weekend softball, and occasional family nights out playing bingo in Mesquite, NV; Joe was raised in Everett, WA and later in Parowan, UT, when he moved to St. George in 1958. While in the US Army he lived in Oakland and Alameda, CA; Columbia, South Carolina; Ft. Campbell, KY; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Salt Lake City; El Paso, TX, and Augusta, GA. After retiring from the Army in March 1985 he resided in Carrollton, GA until moving back home in June 2009.

Joe is survived by his beautiful wife Betty Lou (Morris) Stubbs of St. George, sons Larry, of Enterprise, Richard( Sandra) ,Brian Stubbs(Kenzie) of St. George, daughter Brandy (Stubbs) Robledo (Andy) of St. George, Son Joseph D. Stubbs III (Dina) of Tacoma, WA , Captain Tyler Frankum (Stubbs) serving in the US Army at Fort Gordon, GA.  And Daughter Rachel Stubbs of Galveston, Texas.  Joe has 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Joe is also survived by his brothers Clifford Stubbs ( Trudy) of Idaho Falls, ID, Gary Stubbs, (Marisol) of St.George, Utah, Craig Stubbs of Seattle, Washington, Sisters Lorna ( Piper- Stubbs)(Mike) Wulfenstein of Elko, NV, Loni (Stubbs) Turner(Fred) of Las Vegas, NV, Turea (Stubbs) Despain(Brandt) of St. George,  and Christy (Stubbs) Low( Terry) of Moses Lake, Washington.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Colby Petersen, PA-C, for his and the staff at the Heart of Dixie Cardiology department for their special care and for the terrific staff of the 3rd floor nursing staff and hospitalists at Dixie Regional Medical Center.  Also Sam R.N. formally from Zion’s Health care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00am at the Riverside LDS Chapel located at 2434 E. Riverside Drive, St. George, Utah 84790.  A viewing will held from 9:30 to 10:45am prior to services at the same location.   Interment will take place in Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah.

Military Honors will be rendered by the Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard.
