Joyce Carlson

February 24, 1934 — January 4, 2022

St George, Utah

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Joyce Norma Carlson of St. George, Utah passed away on January 4th, 2022 at the age of 87.

Joyce was born on February 24, 1934 in Rains, Utah to Hazel Luella & Francis Oscar Carlson. She was the 13th child of 16 children, sharing a birthday with her twin brother Gene.

She very much had a bond with family as well as her many siblings. Especially with her twin Gene, and her sisters, Rosalie, Barbara and Colleen.

Joyce lived a full life. From traveling to many foreign countries, hiking Utah’s tallest peaks, skiing down mountains, to her successful 35 years working for the Government as a Program Manager for the IRS.

She raised her 2 children Cheryl & Cindy in California then later settling in Utah.

As a proud home owner & “builder”. She took pride in her meticulous planning and specifications of her dream homes, ALL 7 of them! And with these homes, she filled them with wonderful meals, gatherings and full of her six GrandChildren and fourteen Great Grandchildren! She always loved a child on her lap and to read to them.

An avid basketball fan, she loved watching the Utah Jazz and the Chiefs of Kansas City. She loved participating in games as Rummikub, Uno and Yahtzee. She was very competitive to say the least! No cheating!

Joyce was very neighborly, and was always was helpful. She was protective of her community and generous with her time and thoughtfulness.

She was very committed to her Ward and served a mission at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Employment Office, helping to secure jobs for the unemployed, doing monthly newsletter and weekly programs. Joyce wanted to keep busy even in her retirement in helping people anyway she could by visiting other elderly friends who needed assistance.

Joyce was independent and full of strong character and her convictions. She lived a life on her terms and was happy in her retirement. She loved living in St George and her friends and family. She was lucky to live close and have great assistance from granddaughter Michelle Carter and Niece Pauline Crump.

She is Survived her Daughter Cindy Winters, her 6 GrandChildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and her Brother Gene and sister Barbara. She is Preceded by her parents, 14 siblings and daughter Cheryl Gunter.

And in her end wishes, be sure to “Close the door and turn that light off”
