Kathleen (Kathy) Martin

April 9, 1947 — January 6, 2017

Kathleen (Kathy) Bott Martin, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, died peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017 after a brief battle with brain cancer. She was 69 years old. Kathy was born on August 9, 1947 in Brigham City, Utah. She was the daughter of Eugene and Norma Tingey Bott, both deceased. She was one of 8 siblings. Her life was shorter than we would have liked, but it was a beautiful life and the world is better because of who Kathy was.

Kathy grew up as the daughter of a farmer in Box Elder County. Their family lived in Perry, Honeyville, and Brigham City, Utah. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1965 and was well known for her beautiful singing voice. Following her graduation, she attended Weber State College, and earned her Nursing Certificate in 1969.

Kathy met Frank Edward Martin (Ogden, Utah) at Weber State College in 1965. They were married in the Logan, Utah Temple on August 4, 1966. Together, Kathy and Frank were the parents of five exceptional children and the grandparents of 13 spectacular grandchildren.  They were married for 49 years.

Kathy worked as a nurse and nursing administrator for 43 years. Her exemplary life of service and care made a difference to countless people. She was a Life Flight nurse and a skilled teacher as well. She worked at the Dee Hospital and the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah; at Humana Davis North Hospital in Layton, Utah; at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah; at Valley View Hospital in Cedar City, Utah and for Zion’s Way Hospice in St. George, Utah.

Kathy loved being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully in a variety of callings, and was a wonderful teacher. She loved family history and served joyfully as a Family History Missionary for the last few years of her life. Kathy loved making beautiful jewelry. She participated frequently at the Tuacahn Saturday Market and attended as many rock and gem fairs as she could. Kathy also loved sewing and oil-painting. She has left behind many works of beauty for her family and friends to enjoy.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Christi and Chris Ruppel, Jana and Chet Parker, David and Jennah Martin, Mindy Martin, Stephen and Jennifer Martin; along with her 13 grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Hirschi, Heber and Bonnie Bott, Dorothy and Parris Neal, Elizabeth Price, Richard and Julie Bott, and James and Lola Bott; along with their wonderful children and grandchildren.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Edward Martin; her parents, Eugene and Norma Bott; and her sister, Margaret Coleman.

The Martin family would like to give special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers from Sun Tree Home Health and Hospice for their amazing care and compassion. They have cared for Kathy and her family, as if we were a part of their family. We are grateful. We are also grateful for the love and support of many friends and loved ones.

Funeral Services for Kathy will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 am.  The funeral will be held at the Westridge Chapel, located at 415 Westridge Drive, St. George, Utah. A viewing will precede the funeral at 10:00 am. Interment is at the Tonaquint Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of McMillan Mortuary.  Condolences may be shared at mcmillanmortuary.com
