LaRae Dillard passed away peacefully on October 9, 2012 at home surrounded by family. She was born on May 9, 1928 in Willow, IO. She married Bill Dillard in Las Vegas, NV on February 15, 1948. They remained married until Bill's passing on September 3, 2012. She is survived by her two sons Dale and David Dillard, daughter-in-laws Jeanine and Denise Dillard, grandchildren Kara, Darren, and Deanna Dillard, great grandson Christian Souders, half sister Darlene Somerville, Darlene's daughter Cory, and half brothers Dennis and Donnie Somerville. LaRae is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dillard, her mother, Marie Somerville, her father, Charles Edinger and her brother, Doug Edinger.
LaRae enjoyed playing sports in high school and throughout her life. Her favorites included fast pitch softball and volleyball. Her most recent sporting activity was playing volleyball in the Huntsmen Senior Games. The metal of her winnings hang proudly in her living room. LaRae was a great cook and she enjoyed preparing Sunday meals for the family to come over and enjoy. She enjoyed keeping things organized in the home and working in the yard. She had a green thumb that produced many beautiful roses and plants. While her two sons were in school, she worked for Egge Machine Company in Los Angeles, CA. She knew everything there was to know about antique cars and engine parts. LaRae and her husband retired in 1985 and moved from Torrance, CA to St. George, UT. They enjoyed seeing Southern Utah grow. LaRae could always be found attending one of her grandkids events including dance concerts, piano recitals, swim meets and school award shows. She worked hard her entire life and was a great wife to Bill and a loving mother to her kids and grandkids.
LaRae touched so many lives throughout the years. One life in particular was her daughter-in-law Denise Dillard. Denise became the daughter LaRae never had. Together they enjoyed numerous hours of going through family pictures, playing with homemade dolls, and sharing countless stories. LaRae and Denise shared a very special relationship that cannot be put into words.
LaRae will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. A special thanks goes out to Janet Fernandez who was LaRae and Bill's personal caregiver for the last year. LaRae and Bill loved Janet and treated her as one of their own. Janet's kindness and thoughtfulness will be cherished forever.
A special thanks to Applegate Home Care, Alpine Home Medical, and Beehive Homes for their special care for LaRae.
