Leola Peterson

Leola Pierce Peterson was an angel among us. She was born July 8, 1924 in Sigurd, Utah to Wilford and Alice Alvey Pierce, and was the third of ten children. She grew up in Sigurd and graduated from Richfield High School. When the family moved to Orem, Utah, she met Darrel L. Peterson. They were married on January 26, 1945 in Provo, Utah and became the parents of two daughters: Janice Lavon and Carol Ann.

Leola and Darrel worked hard to provide for their little family, moving to California during their early marriage to seek employment. They returned to Utah in 1955 and remained there for the rest of their lives, enjoying family, hunting in the mountains, fishing in the lakes, and each other. Darrel passed away in 1990, leaving her with a rich posterity.

Among her many accomplishments are: being a loving wife and mother; her abundant service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which she is a member; her service in the St. George Temple; her service as a volunteer in the St. George Medical Center; her involvement and leadership in the Utah Bowling Association (Hall of Fame member), and the Southern Utah Horseshoe Pitchers Association; induction into Huntsman World Senior Games Hall of Fame in 2011; her success in various occupations, especially as executive secretary for Dean and Peay Construction Co. for which she oversaw the construction of Shadowbrook Homes in St. George. Leola's energy, exuberance and good works is an example to us all. She peacefully passed away April 1, 2012 in her home, at the age of 87 years.

She is survived by two sisters: Glenda Joy Smith, Payson, Utah and Audrey Hadaway, Orem, Utah; two daughters: Janice Lavon Redfearn (John) of St. George, Carol Ann Ohms (Dennis) of Cedar City, 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Viewing will be Thursday, April 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday, April 6th 10:00 to 10:45 am at the Morningside 7th Ward meetinghouse at 879 S. River Road. The funeral will be Friday, April 6th at 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery on Saturday, April 7th at 2:00 pm.
