Lester Mondell Simmons, 79, passed away suddenly in his Washington, Utah home on Saturday, January 13, 2018 where he had lived for 15 years. Les was born to Lester Elwin and Lena Gladys Simmons in 1939 in Payson, Utah. He moved to Las Vegas when he was 4 years old. He married Elizabeth (“Betsy”) Walter in 1960 and they spent most of their lives raising their family in Las Vegas, Nevada. He obtained multiple degrees from University of Nevada Las Vegas, had a distinguished 34 ½ year career with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and retired as a Captain. After 60 years of making a home in Las Vegas, Les and Betsy moved to the St. George valley.
Les loved to read, play basketball, ride bikes, and swim competitively. He spent his life serving the Lord in various callings for the LDS church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Olivia Walter Simmons, and his older sister Lily Ann Simmons Moore; his children Barbara, Stephen,
Susan, and Cheryl; his 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held in his honor on Thursday, January 18th at 2pm at Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, Utah.
