Maria Sophia (Riet) Sieverts Van Wagoner our sweetheart wife, mother and grandmother passed July 7, 2016 at home holding her eternal companion’s hand in Washington, UT. Riet was born November 4, 1935 to Sophia Maria Souer and Arnoldus Sieverts in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She loved life and enjoyed serving others and was well loved in return.
She married Brent J Van Wagoner on Nov. 23 1960 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple, performed by LeGrand Richards. The union was blessed with 2 children, J. Blair (Julie), Yvette (Brent) Anderson and 6 grandchildren; Ashley, (Shane), A.J., Alexandria, Damien, Sterling, and Harlequin. She is survived by her brother, Arnold (Jeannette) Sieverts. She graduated from High School in Amsterdam, Netherlands and attended Weber State University.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was a financial consultant, insurance consultant, and worked for Eastern Airlines. She lived in Amsterdam when it was occupied by Germany during WW2 and had many beautiful and fascinating tales to tell of her life during that time. She was a part time LDS missionary in the Netherlands and worked in the banking business before immigrating to the United States. She was active in the community, Kiwanis K-Ann’s, Ogden Golf & CC., and held many church callings, including Stake Young Woman’s presidency. She and her husband worked as service missionaries on Temple Square for 7 years.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Ingrid Sieverts and Rob Sieverts, and her parents.
