Marvin Harper

Marvin Ernest Harper, 89, passed away April 29, 2016 in Santa Clara, Utah. Marvin was born December 26, 1926, in Los Angeles, California to Mildred Dix and Ernest Harper. Marvin grew up in Southern California attending Excelsior High School in Norwalk. Marvin loved the beach, boating and scuba diving. He also loved the mountains, camping and skiing and was still skiing at the age of 86. He also loved flying. He had a pilots license and for a while had his own airplane.

He attended Brigham Young University where he met and married LuJean Hales, from Richfield. In 1949 they were married and had six children, Janet (Orem, Utah), Christine (Martinez, California), Laurie (Mesa, Arizona), John (Manti, Utah), Jolene (Simmons, California) and Eric (Whittier, California). In 1968 he and LuJean were divorced and in 1986 he married JoAnn Lamph Harper. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. In 1995 they moved to Parowan, Utah.

Marvin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a full time mission in Eastern Canada. He served as Branch President, Mutual President, Elders Quorum President, Bishops First Counselor, High Priest Group Leader, 2 Stake Missions and a Ward Mission Leader, and a Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He also served as a Temple worker for many years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00am at the Parowan 4th Ward LDS Chapel located at 90 S. Main, Parowan, Utah.  A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45am prior to services at the same location.  Interment will be at the Parowan Cemetery.
