Jane McAllister

Mary Jane Averett Holden McAllister, age 88, passed away October 4, 2023, at her home in Hurricane, UT surrounded by family.

She was born March 26, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Albert Leon Averett and Anona Lydia Pulsipher.

She married Leland W Holden in St George, UT December 22, 1950. They had three children, Victoria Lee (Allan) Johnson, Joseph Leon Holden, and Kathy Jane (Brian) Jones. The couple divorced in July 1983.

She married Rex B McAllister on May 2, 1987. Her family then grew to include Jay (Brenda) McAllister, Rexine (Dennis) Rowley, and Mary Ann McAllister.

Mary Jane loved serving the Lord and her fellow man. Her many callings included serving a mission in the Eastern States Mission, building chapels beside her husband Leland and their children from 1961-1966.

She served as the Relief Society President two times, a Seminary teacher, and in the St George Temple Baptistry. However the calling she loved the most was being the Chorister. She was given this calling in every Branch or Ward she lived in, except the one she was currently living in.

She loved children and all of her 55 grandchildren and delighted in all of their accomplishments.

Mary Jane McAllister is preceded in death by a brother, Ramon Keith Averett, a sister Beth Elaine Mullins (Lewis), her son, granddaughter Kristy Jones, great-granddaughter Lexi Jones, grandson Ryan Rowley and her husband.

Funeral services will be held Saturday October 7, 2023, at 1178 S 700 W, Hurricane, UT. A viewing will be held at 1 pm. Family prayer will be at 1:45 pm. Service at 2 pm.

The interment will be at the St George City Cemetery on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at­­ 9:00 am.
